Dear Miss Addams:
I have your note, with enclosure, dated June the 28th, 1912. I regret very much that you feel at all embarrassed in the matter relating to my attendance upon Mrs. Hulbert's children during the past winter. I may assure you that I had given the matter no thought and felt it was all forgotten until a few days ago I received a note from Mrs. Hulbert, asking me for an account for services rendered. As I had kept no record of the matter I was unable to render a bill.
It would have been a source of great pleasure and satisfaction to me to have rendered complimentary services to your adopted grand-children, in view of the fact that you are constantly doing so much for every one [else's] children and grand-children, not to speak of the parents. Nevertheless, I have deposited the check and remunerated Doctor Frank, who operated on Louise, and hope that I may be permitted, during good behavior, to serve Mrs. Hulbert's children in the future.
