My dear Colonel Roosevelt: --

There was some discussion in regard to Mrs. Longstreet representing the Southern States before the National Committee. I am sorry to say that I have forgotten what the difficulties in the situation were, but I have sent your correspondence on to Miss Kellor who I am sure will remember about it.

I personally am very anxious that we should have a Southern woman and was much disappointed when we could not secure Miss Gordon.

Feeling sure Miss Kellor will be able to give you full information on the matter, of Mrs. Longstreet's and Mrs. Bird's positions, I am

Faithfully yours,

Jane Addams. [signed]

Colonel Theodore Roosevelt,
New York.
