Biographical Text

Francis Patrick "Frank" Walsh was a nationally recognized lawyer. He started practicing law in Missouri in 1889. In 1913, President Woodrow Wilson appointed him to serve as a chairman of the Federal Commission on Industrial Relations. Additionally, from 1915-1916, Walsh was both an editor and publisher for the Kansas City Post. In 1918, he was named co-chairman of the National War Labor Board with former President William Howard Taft. Walsh gained admittance to the New York Bar in 1919 and began representing the National Women's Trade Union League. Additionally, he defended, and ultimately won, the cases for the head of the United States' Communist Party, William Z. Foster, and Thomas Mooney. Walsh served as the chairman of the Taft Commission of the St. Lawrence Waterway Commission under New York Governor Franklin D. Roosevelt. Roosevelt later appointed him as chairman of the New York Power Authority Committee in 1931. Walsh was one of the founding members of the National Lawyer's Guild and became his provision's president in 1937.

Walsh married Katherine O'Flaherty in 1891. The couple had nine children together, though only seven lived to adulthood. Walsh died in 1939.
