Mary Rozet Smith to Myra Harriet Reynolds Linn, May 1, 1928

Hull-House -- May 1.

Dear Myra

Your Aunt Jane says that I may ask ↑write↓ you to tell you something of our plans for the summer. We hope to stay here until after the 4th of July, to be with all the Hull-House children at Waukegan for the festivities of the 4th. This would take us to California by about the 10th of July and we sail from Los Angeles on July 28th. I'm afraid [page 2] that we must keep your Aunt Jane in a fairly cool spot -- probably by the sea as she can't stand the summer sun (having once had a sort of sun stroke).

Every one says Carmel is the shadiest spot there is but, of course, it is rather far away from Arlington and Los Angeles. Stanley wrote that you were all going to the mountains for a fortnight in July but we want to know if it wouldn't be possible to go on that holiday a bit earlier and [page 3] come to us (say at Carmel) for ten days or two weeks in July. I suppose we should have to be in Los Angeles on the 27th -- as I believe we sail on the morning of the 28th. I am sure we can find some sort of hotel or boarding-house with food that would be possible for the children and for all the rest of us. We are writing a friend in Carmel to make inquiries about such places. The visit of the Linns would be, of course, from door ↑at home↓ to door at [page 4] home again and we hope very much that it will not seem too great an undertaking for you and that Stanley can put in as much time as possible with us. Perhaps you could come directly from the mountains.

Your Aunt Jane seems fairly well and sends much love to you all -- as do Dr. Hamilton and I.

Always affectionately yours

Mary Rozet Smith

Please let us know what seems a possibility for July.
