Biographical Text

John Bartram Kelley was the son of Florence Kelley and Count Lazare Wischnewetzky. When his parents divorced in 1892, he took his mother's name as his surname. Kelley spent much of his youth at Hull-House. He later moved to New York and worked as a journalist and writer. Kelley and his wife owned a yacht, which they sailed across the Atlantic in 1922, garnering headlines. He died in 1968.
