January 2nd, 1918
My dear Mrs. Andrews:
Your letter came too late for a reply to reach you in America but I want to assure you of my congratulations that you are off on such an important mission and also to say that I hope you will not hand in your resignation as a member of the International Committee.
I think there is no doubt that Miss Nichols will be made a delegate as several people are falling out. We might put her in your place now with the understanding, however, that if you are abroad when the time arrives, which I sincerely hope will be the case, that you will join us. In the meantime I am not willing to regard you as having left us.
With all good wishes for the New Year, I am,
Jane Addams [signed]
