My dear Miss Balch

I am so sorry not to see you in Amsterdam, but a cable from U.S.A. yesterday made us feel that we must return. We haven't yet got our tickets but we go to Liverpool at once and hope to find space on the St Louis. Please write me c/o The Survey in N.Y. for I will see Prest Wilson at once and ↑will↓ not go to Chicago if possible until after your return. The English people are [illegible] ↑for↓ this [intervention?] than for any other. [page 2] I hope you are not too tired out. I will write more from the steamer.

Hastily yours Jane Addams
