My dear Mr. Levinson:

I was positively mortified to find your name on a list of subscribers to whom I was supposed to write today, reminding them of contributions usually made in December to Hull-House, but every year since 1909 you have kindly sent a generous check to us at this time. In 1917 you sent it in May.

I am quite punctilious in regard to mixing a request for money with social relations but perhaps you won't mind if, in the midst of our negotiations, I write to you the usual letter "hoping you will continue your contribution this year." Hull-House is not in debt but we cannot pretend that it is easy to keep ourselves afloat in war times.

Faithfully yours,

Jane Addams [signed]
