Biographical Text

Joseph Perkins Chamberlain graduated from Hastings Law School in 1and Columbia University. After graduating, he immediately began teaching in 1923. He held his tenure at Columbia University for the following 27 years. At the university, Chamberlain directed the Legislative Drafting Research Fund, which helped advise and improve statute law. He was deeply involved in work to help refugees during the 1930s to 1950, serving as a member of the Intergovernmental High Commission for Refugees and on President Franklin Roosevelt's Advisory Committee on Political Refugees.

Chamberlain married Elizabeth Stellman in 1906. Chamberlain died in 1951.
