Biographical Text

Mary Dreier was a social reformer. She attended the New York School of Philanthropy. Dreier's social reform career began in 1899 when she met Leonora O’Reilly, who was the head of a settlement house. Dreier and her sister Margaret then joined the New York Women's Trade Union League, where Dreier eventually served as president. From 1911 to 1915, she served on the New York State Factory Investigating Commission, and in 1915 she was appointed to the New York City Board of Education. In 1917, Dreier became chairwoman of the New York State Committee on Women in Industry of the Advisory Commission of the Council of National Defense. After World War I, she became a member of the executive committee of the New York Council for Limitation of Armaments and the head of the Committee for the Outlawry of War for the WTUL. Dreier was also the chair of the New York City's Woman Suffrage Party.

Dreier never married. She lived with Frances Kellor until Kellor's death in 1952. Dreier herself died in 1963 and is buried next to Kellor.
