My dear Anne Martin --
The National Conference of Social Work appointed a committee of fifty -- or rather we met at the end of the Conference -- to do [every] thing possible of the pardon of Anita Whitney. We have sent all sorts of telegrams and night-letters, getting as many important people as possible. We have also been told that she does not need to apply herself, but the [governor] can still pardon her. [page 2]
Will you tell me if there is anything else in the world that we can do.
Will you also give her my love and sincere admiration?
I am writing to you rather than to her hoping that you can make suggestions that would perhaps embarrass her.
I wish you might have heard all the nice things said about your report in Cleveland, and also that you might know how grateful the W.I.L. is for all you are doing in the [world?]. It is the nicest thing that has ever happened to the [Amer] Section of the W.I.L. -- your interest and help. Always devotedly yours Jane Addams.
