Miss Jane Addams,

Dear Miss Addams: --

We are sending you a copy of "The Case of Sacco and Vanzetti" by Felix Frankfurter, professor of the Harvard Law School. It is in our opinion, the ablest and most convincing statement of this widely discussed case. We hope that you will not only read it yourself but pass it on to others, so that from your community there may go an adequate protest, by influential people to Governor Fuller of Massachusetts.

The Trustees of our Fund have for years been deeply concerned in this trial of Sacco and Vanzetti and are at this crucial moment desirous to do their part in showing to the Governor of Massachusetts, that the country at large has awakened to the fact that there is serious danger of an irreparable piece of judicial injustice being done.

It will, we believe, interest you to hear how the matter has been handled here in Baltimore. A group of thirty people gathered at a private residence to hear a presentation of the subject by Professor Walter Wheeler Cook of Yale, Mr. Omer Hershey, President of the Baltimore Bar Association, and Rabbi Israel. This conference being convinced of the importance of sending a letter to Governor Fuller, the above named gentlemen drew it up and it was signed by a very representative group of citizens. We enclose a copy. Even if the Governor should have appointed an impartial commission before you have been able to take action, it will still be important for you to write to him. We have strong reason to believe that he will appreciate support, such as you and your friends can give, in the very important decision which he must make.

For the cause of Justice and for the honor of our Courts, we hope that you will be able to take this matter up. As you know, the need is urgent and the time is short, as the men have been sentenced to be electrocuted on July 10th.

Sincerely yours,

Elisabeth Gilman [signed]
Secretary.
