My dear Miss Addams:

We not only appreciate your books, but we also appreciate the continued interest that you have in Rockford College. The books have arrived, but owing to the necessity of making a place for them in our library, we have not yet unpacked them. As soon as they are placed on the shelves I [will] write you again. We certainly are greatly indebted to you and will assure you that they will contribute materially to the success of our work in Sociology and Social Service.

This leads me to say that I have had in mind for some time extending you an invitation to talk to our student body and friends of the college on some vital subject in the field of social relations. The biggest occasion that we shall have for this winter will be Charter Day Sunday afternoon, February 20. [I] think you spoke on this occasion several years ago, but we would be very happy to have you speak again at that time. It is far enough ahead in your engagement [book] to make a promise easy. Will you do it?

With best wishes, I am
Cordially yours,
(Wm. A. Maddox) [signed]
Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago, Ill.
