Dear J. A.
Altogether this makes quite a big budget.
I have written Mrs. Kind calling her attention to the fact that as to amending the arrangement about $5.00 W.I.L Ass. (International) membership all that can be done is to remember ↑present↓ an amendment at Dublin.
As to my going to Europe this summer (cf. my letter to Miss Blake herewith) it is now out of the question and I have called M. D. Z. to that effect.
It is not a question of my health, but of Annie. She is leaving Dr her life with constant care from Doctor and nurses for family life and it means one of us must be always at her disposal. This transition period [with] her nerves are sufficiently [restored] to ensure her to occupy herself and steer her own ship is the most difficult and the most important. Marion is at the end of her tether [page 2] and my sisters feel it is indispensable for me to be here and take my place of care and I know it is. (And there is nothing I want so much to do).
I am more sorry than I can say to fail you and Madeline Doty and the school. I don't know that I could have helped much but I could at least have tried. But I have no choice in the matter.
I do trust it will go satisfactorily for you personally without too much fatigue, and well, really well, for our work. But no man knows what will prove to have been "well," -- maybe a fresh start, a [recrystallization]. But I hope we can go on, on our old lines, working in mutual confidence. I do think L. G. H. & Frieda Perlen are terribly difficult temperaments or rather that their theories make great difficulties.
