Dear JA,

Bessie's idea now is to go to Mexico as I told you. She is very much disappointed that she gets no reply to my letter to Miss Landazuri. If she is still within reach would it be too much trouble to learn if she received my letter and if she could let one hear from her now as B. is sailing soon

Otherwise she is going really with no [page 2] addresses & introductions, Ms. Kelley also having failed to materialize. I do hate to bother you.

My duty to stay at home this summer is sunlight clear & I have written Miss Blake a letter a copy of which I enclose.

This is not because of my health or anything but the fact that Annie will need constant companionship and. This summer and that I must be on hand. We shall divide among ourselves but I [page 3] really am needed. It is not an imaginary emergency but a real one. Meanwhile the joyful part is that Annie is so much better, but just this transition stage between doctors & nurses and a prescribed regime and the return of nervous energy which will enable her to find interest and occupation for herself is the most difficult & important.

I am very sorry to fail you [page 4] all when you had every right to count on me for what I could give. The truth is I cannot give myself this summer.

With dear love always
EGB
