WOMEN'S INTERNATIONAL LEAGUE FOR PEACE AND FREEDOM
My dear Miss Graves --
I thank you very much for your kind letter to which I am replying from my bed having been here for about a forthnight with a wretched bronchitis.
I am afraid that I cannot come to Baltimore in March [although] I hope very much that our paths will cross somewhere in the east during that month.
My nephew John Addams Linn was killed in the Argonne, I found his grave on the edge of the battlefield when I was in France in 1919. He was a clergyman but for some years had taught as well in Trinity School in New York. He had made every possible effort to get into the Army but his eyes were quite impossible. He was serving temporarily with the Y.M.C.A. until he should be a captain in a field hospital [I had?] [illegible] [find time?]. [page 2]
I have been interrupted so will send off this scrappy letter now & "as is"!
Hastily yours
Jane Addams
