My dear Madam Schwimmer:
I thank you very much for your kind letter and word of welcome back. It is very nice indeed to be here and I am recovering so rapidly that I shall soon consider myself quite all right.
I am writing to Miss Kjelsberg asking her to come to see me and perhaps I can be of some use to her in suggesting one of the Eleanor Clubs or some such place. The young lady who has charge of the welfare work at Montgomery Ward's lives here and I shall get her interested in the situation. I am awfully sorry to say that it is utterly impossible to get anybody into our House now. We have a waiting list every Fall and a Miss Richards who applied a year ago but who did not get a vacancy until this Fall may have to yield to one of the older residents.
I know of Madam Betzy Kjelsberg and have always admired her very much. Nothing would give me more pleasure than to be able to be of service to her daughter. While living here is impossible perhaps I can be of service in some other way.
Hoping to see you soon and with cordial greetings to your mother and sister, I am
Cordially yours,
Jane Addams [signed]
