My dear Marcet
Thank you so much for the photographs of yourself which are very nice [although] I like the [hatless] one the best and Mary Smith likes the one with the hat. We may [decide] for the [illegible].
I have been thinking a good deal lately on the possibility of Julius and yourself taking the name of Haldeman for your married name or Julius Haldeman always using the first name too when possible. It is not a legal matter I believe to take the husbands last name, only a matter of custom, in Holland it is often the other way [round]. [page 2] I venture to suggest this because Julius does not seem particularly attached to his own name and also because it would be better for the bank I suppose not to change the name so long identified with it. He would keep his old name for writing, as I understand it, in any event.
Please don't have him think that I am suggesting this because I do not like his name but largely because I thought that he himself was not very keen on his family name and before real estate deeds [etc.] are signed some legal action might be necessary.
I am better this morning and encouraged -- believe that "rest" is what will count in the end. Love to Mary and always to yourself
Your loving Aunt Jane Addams
