My dear Dr. Jordan: --

I want to apologize for my delayed reply to your invitation to address the N.E.A., but since my return my plans have been so dependent upon those of other people that it was impossible for me to reply earlier.

I am still somewhat uncertain, but if I could reach San Francisco by the 28th of August, would that be of any use? As I remember one of your earlier letters, you mentioned the 28th as a possibility. If you will let me know if that time is convenient for you, I will telegraph you as quickly afterwards as possible. You have probably seen The Survey with a report of my New York address, but I am sending you another on the chance that you have not.

Anticipating seeing you in August or September with much pleasure, I am

Sincerely yours,

Jane Addams. [signed]

Dr. David Starr Jordan
San Francisco, California.
