Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago, Illinois.

My dear Miss Addams:

I note that you are sailing next week for Holland. I believe that the cause of peace is worthy of enlisting all your strongest efforts, and that there is perhaps no one in this country who can do more for it than you can. It is for the women to do their part, as every war is directed against them. As I said the other day, no nation can be militarized that is fair enough to grant votes to its women.

I shall hold the place for you on the program at Oakland just as long as possible. If I put your name down it will be with the understanding that you will come if you can.

Very truly yours,

David Starr Jordan [signed]
