Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago, Ill.

Dear Madam:

The Century would like very much to have the privilege of reproducing Mr. George de Forest Brush's portrait of yourself.  We have communicated with Mr. Brush and he gives us his permission and says he will be very glad to have us use it, but referrers us to you for your permission.  We should like to have it, both on the account of the public interest in yourself and your work and in that of Mr. Brush.

Trusting that you will grant us permission and will inform us how we may go to work to get a good photograph of the portrait, the whereabouts of which we do not know, I am

Respectfully yours,
R. U. Johnson [signed]
Associate Editor.
