My dear Mrs. Blaine: --

I awfully sorry to seem to "nag" you, but if you could send us your contribution before January 1st it would enable us to end our fiscal year without debt, which is of course very much to be desired.

This year has been an exceptional one for all charitable enterprises. Not for years have we spent so much money on the unemployed; the combination of lack of work and this cold weather is a very bitter one and it is hard to have to stay one's hand.
