Dear Miss Addams:

Your speech on seconding Colonel Roosevelt's nomination was thrilling -- both because of its substance and its time and place. I am single-[minded] in my enthusiasm for the [illegible] and platform and shall do all in my power to further the [combination]. Of course as a single-taxer I have long been a woman's advocate but I shall work with renewed will under such leadership. It is a great thing when a man of Roosevelt's world [power] gets behind the matters [illegible] [page 2] have been trying [move]. Don't you feel this? I'm sure you do. With sincere appreciation

Very cordially yours

Hamlin Garland
