My dear Miss Addams:

You were kind to give notice to the Oriental Survey tours some time ago, -- Miss Levin of 6136 University Ave. has written about your helpfulness to her. And recently Mrs. R. H. Ward, who lived at Hull House, has spoken of you. I was in China when you helped there also. About the Orient am writing you now.

Steadily the work of Oriental Observers has grown. Now it is carried on in a three-fold manner; Education, Travel, and Welfare work. We naturally associate your name with the latter. We are endeavoring to interest specialized agencies in "observing" and then doing as they see fit about helping over there. Child labor, the blind, the illiterate, and other needs are in consideration. It seems especially important that just at this time friendly folks in America express themselves in some friendly way. Leaders from the Honolulu Conference tell us that to promote friendly relations between East and West is the most important call of the day. At any rate, we want your moral support to help wake up America. Any advice you can give us will be most welcome now.

Sincerely,

Walter L. Runyan [signed]
