Annie Birkbeck Ford to Jane Addams, December 13, 1927

New Harmony Indiana
Dec 13th 1927.

Dear Miss Addams: --

The line to McClurg's [brought] word from Brentano's (Chicago) to the effect that the Vol. desired must be ordered from England and will require five weeks to get it. Meantime, our Librarian says it is permissible to loan books, and she has the partial autobiography -- (1920) (taken from the 1857 ↑English↓ publication the year before Robert Owen's death) & [brought] out in this country -- wrapped with the McCabe volume --(this one to be read for the author's view) ↑the other only that you may have had it in hand↓. I shall order both for you; -- expecting the return of those mailed ↑here↓ at your convenience. [page 2]

I tuned in on a new voice last night, -- a rapid speaker on politics of the hour (in the U.S.A). His manner of speech held me to the finish in my desire to know what Englishman had adopted this country. When he said "Jane Addams" (in a statement I could not catch) -- my curiosity was still more keen. When, the announcer said "This is the weekly program of four years standing (if I have it right) -- you have been listening to [blank]? Associate Editor of the Brooklyn Daily Eagle." (W.O.R. Newark -- N.J.) -- my curiosity ↑was↓ still on edge. Evidently there is no limit in the power of the radio for good in the world and a great aid to the universal language requisites. There is a recent "reference" to N. Harmony which later I may send to intrude further on your time.

Sincerely yours

Annie B. Ford.
