HULL'S COVE
MAINE

Dear [Dearie?]

First of all let me second (with enthusiasm) Miss Addams invitation to you and Kenneth to come to see us in August. We can offer peace and comfort in the first two weeks of August -- a little less comfort in a crowd of noisy children during the second half but a warm welcome [page 2] either time. Won't it be possible for you to come and see us on our hill-top? We'd be more than happy if you would.

I feel rather anxious about little Miss Montes. She wrote, rather sadly I thought, after she had been for one week at Grove House, saying she would like to stay for a month ↑three weeks↓ more. That would end her sojourn next Tuesday and it seems clear that she must continue [page 3] the rest through August.

Miss Hawkins' place in Lake Bluff is "full up." These two sanitariums (literature enclosed) are very dear, but I still think it may be best to send Miss Montes to the North Shore Health Resort for a month. It is on the lake, good food. I believe and kind care.

There are probably not too many rooms at $40 a week and that is about my limit. Will you be good enough to call up our little lady, see how she feels about Grove House. [page 4] (Perhaps a longer sojourn there might be arranged) -- and also say that I want her to take off all August, certainly until after Labor Day, as my guest somewhere. I really think it is important to get the little lady rested -- though I may say that $160 looks rather terrifying. Still this month is being very cheap at Grove House and the average would not be more than I planned for.

I hate to burden you with this but it seems impossible to arrange [page 5] it at this distance.

If it is too inconvenient a moment ↑for you↓ ask Mrs. Hicks to take it on.

Our love to you and Kenneth and an urgent plea to consider Hull's Cove as a holiday resort.

Affectionately Yours

Mary Rozet Smith

It is my serious opinion that the sanitarium on the North Shore is really the best plan for Miss Montes. Don't consider my remarks on its costliness.
