THOMAS JEFFERSON CENTENNIAL ELECTION
Under the Auspices of
THOMAS JEFFERSON MEMORIAL FOUNDATION Inc.
CHICAGO HEADQUARTERS
Room 906 -- 14 WEST WASHINGTON STREET
June 3rd, 1926
Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
800 S. Halsted St.,
Chicago, Illinois.

My dear Miss Addams:

I am taking this opportunity of writing to all members of the Jefferson Election Committee, to notify them that we have enrolled to date twelve candidates, and to enclose you a new circular, carrying the names of all those who agreed to serve at the request of Mayor Dever.

Inasmuch as I have accepted the active chairmanship, I am of course, doubly anxious that the Election should be a great success in our city, and we should have many more young women enrolled to produce adequate results. We have been forced to extend the closing date of nominations to June 10th in the hopes of getting more candidates, and the organizers are working very hard to produce them.

What I am asking of you is just this -- if you have not entered a candidate, can you suggest to us the names of any representative young women whom we might approach with the view of getting them in as candidates? This would in no way obligate you financially, but would be of the greatest assistance at headquarters. A city the size of Chicago should have entered at least fifty candidates, and we are, at this writing, far short of that number.

Trusting you will find time to let us hear from you in this matter at the above address, I am
Most Cordially Yours,
George Hull Porter [signed]
Chairman.
