Dear Friend:
As you know, Anna Haines is back in this country, and we are working on the proposition of getting funds for the establishment of a Nurses Training School in Moscow. We are making an appeal to the Rockefeller Foundation and to the Jewish Joint Distribution Committee, and so far feel that we have some encouragement from them. However, we all know how easy it is for Foundations to refuse to do anything of this kind.
We do want to make some contacts in Chicago. I am especially anxious to get to Mr. [Cyrus] McCormick, as I believe he would be one who would be interested in helping us. I also want very much to have the opportunity of talking to Mr. Julius Rosenwald about the plans. I know Mr. Rosenwald and have no hesitancy about writing him for an interview, but I am wondering if you would be willing to help open up the way to see him. There are probably others in and around Chicago who would be interested in this proposition, and Anna Haines and I are prepared to come out to Chicago at a suitable time. I do not want to impose upon you, but I do know of your deep interest in the Service Committee work and in the Russian situation, and, therefore, I hope I am not imposing upon you when I write as I do.
Rufus M. Jones arrives in America next Monday. It will be mighty good to have him with us again. I have missed him very much, and I feel that it will be a great inspiration to us to have him back.
I am enclosing two copies of the plans for the Nurses Training School.
With all good wishes, I am,
Yours sincerely,
William K. Thomas [signed]
