My dear Sir: --

A few days ago there gathered in the city of Washington, a score or more of the friends of William Jennings Bryan to take steps looking toward a suitable memorial to the Commoner at the National Capital. That gathering adopted resolutions, effected a skeleton organization and asked me to accept the presidency of the William Jennings Bryan Memorial Association. I am enclosing you a copy of the resolutions and copy of the brief remarks I made in calling the meeting to order. These will acquaint you with the spirit of the gathering.

Charged with the responsibility of perfecting a national organization, I am writing to ask you to become one of the Vice Presidents of the Association and lend your efforts to doing honor to the great man we loved.

Please let me hear from you with your acceptance and with such suggestions as you feel would aid in securing the funds and in determining upon the character the memorial shall take.

With sentiments of esteem and high regard, I am

Sincerely yours,

Josephus Daniels [signed]

Hon. Jane Addams
