Pension Ludwig
Mrs. Jane [Addams],
Dear beloved friend:
I am very happy indeed to hear that you are coming to Berlin this year in September, and I am delighted to see you again, not delighted only but extremely thankful too.
I wonder [whether] you remember me, the devoted friend of our late Minna Cauer who, having been instrumental in that great work to bring about understanding and unity among the people of the world -- was happy enough to know you.
Now my dear Mrs. [Addams] I have a great ↑[favor]↓ to ask of you. Would ↑↓you↑↓ please allow me to let me help you and to see after you while you are here? Every accommodation you found in the "Hospiz" last time you were here, you can find in my house too. Messengers and porter will be at your disposal just the same, and the only difference would be that there you are a stranger among strangers, while here, I think, I really could be of some use to you, and I could attend to a little of your work.
Needless to say that you would be my dear guest of [honor] if you were kind enough to accept my offer. Mrs. Aletta Jacobs who, as my Guest, lived in my house a number of years ago will assure you that she had been quite happy and satisfied here.
So I would be awfully glad if you granted my request. I remain
Margarete Schurgast [signed]
