Sesquicentennial International Exposition
Philadelphia.
March 17, 1926.
Dear Madam: --
The President and the Board of Directors of the Sesquicentennial International Exposition cordially extend to you this invitation to become a member of a national honorary committee composed of the leading men and women of the United States who believe in the youth of America.
On March 22nd the directors will announce nationally the institution of the American Youth Award and the American Teacher Award. Every state and the District of Columbia will be invited to select locally, the boy and the girl of high school age, whether in or out of school, who most conspicuously embody the highest ideals of American youth. Those so selected will be brought to Philadelphia for a patriotic pilgrimage to spend the week of June 28th to July 5th. They will have a place of honor on July 4th in the 150th anniversary observance of American independence when President Coolidge will be orator of the day.
At the same time each state will be requested to select the woman school teacher who has accomplished the greatest good for the pupils of her state. The teacher so selected will accompany the boy and the girl from her state to Philadelphia. All of the expenses incident to the trip will be paid by the Exposition from the time the winners of the Award leave their homes until the time they return.
Under the plan of the Award, the boy and the girl in each state upon whom the Award will be conferred will be chosen by the youth of their own age in their state. The teacher will be selected by a State Committee of Award which will also supervise the selection of the boy and the girl to be honored.
Enclosed you will find a brief outline of the general plan for the administration of the Award. The detailed plan of the Award [page 2] is now in the hands of the printers and will be forwarded to you before the Awards plans are publicly announced.
The directors believe this will be one of the finest tributes ever paid to the youth and to the teachers of America and would deem it an honor to add your name to the list of those who have heartily endorsed this undertaking.
Very sincerely yours,
