Miss Jane Addams,
Hull House,
Chicago.

Dear Miss Addams: --

We have been torn both ways by your Humpty Dumpty experience -- shocked by word of your fall, and then relieved to know that no bones were broken and you were coming through all right; reversing another old tradition, as is your habit.

I have a note from Mrs. Bowen; thumbs down, says she -- on the ground that to publish separate installments would lose the thread. This, of course, is quite surmountable, but I have a feeling there is something else back of her decision. If there is anything that I can clear up, I should be glad to; but, as I have written her, if you were unable to persuade her, surely no one else can. And I am ever so appreciative of your good offices in the matter.

Sincerely,

Item Relations
