I yesterday returned your manuscript by registered mail -- a little late on acct. of our absence from home.

The facts you discuss are even more deplorable than we had pictured them; but we are very glad to see them so treated and by you.

It seems to me this may [page 2] be the very best work you have done -- a gathering of all the points of your experience to serve the surest need of our society.
