WAR RESISTERS' INTERNATIONAL

Hon. Secretary, H. R. Runham Brown
Abbey Road

England July 17, 1925

Mrs. Urie
Piccadilly, W.L

Dear Mrs. Urie:

We have got to consider what help we can give to those who are now resisting military service. First gather exact information about them, then make it public and work for their release, this is the work which I am hoping you will be able particularly to help me with when you return; this you might discuss with our American friends.

Then you will remember we now have a council, as enclosed list, and that we have to [coopt] a treasurer and three other members. America is not represented and I should like to get an American treasurer. It is not necessary for the treasurer to actually keep the accounts, but I want someone who will raise money. I should be glad if you would talk this over with Miss Jessie Hughan, secretary of the W.R.I, U.S.A. section, and with the Womans Peace Union in particular. I have spent under 500 pounds a year, but it is now evident that we shall need 1000 pounds a year.

Miss Mary Winsor is anxious to help us and it is quite possible that she would be willing to become treasurer, but I am not sure of her. I met her for the first time at the conference. I do not know how far she enjoys the confidence of the American section; you may be able to find this out. There may be some one more suitable over there.

I propose writing to some of our people and telling them of your visit. Will you let me know when you will be in New York and whether you are going to other parts. Will you give me an address in U.S.A. so that I can forward you the full report.

If you can write me on these matter instead of waiting until your return to England it would be a great help as we must move rapidly now.

With very many thanks for all your help,

Sincerely yours,

H. Runham Brown
