My dear Alice

I sent you a copy of "Twenty Years at H. H." today [although] Macmillan has been so slow sending me my copies that you may easily have gotten one from the book seller by this time. I have been at Mrs Bowen's for almost a week with a distressing abscess on my face. It seems to come from a tooth but in spite of much lancing and digging at roots the source of the trouble has not yet been fully eradicated. We have been very much distressed [page 2] over the garment workers strike and I was fearfully tired when I came which may [account] for the length of time.

Mrs Bowen sends her love to you as does your loving sister
