I AM told that many of you are preparing yourselves for business as a profession. Perhaps you will permit me to remind you that the professional attitude means not only greater knowledge, but also a finer feeling toward life and men. And when business shall have developed such a code of ethics as there is in the profession of medicine, for instance, then many of our industrial, social, and economic difficulties will disappear.
I trust, therefore, that you may learn in your business course not only how to serve society through the manufacture and the exchange of goods, but also how to serve men and women who produce them, who are after all the vast majority of our countrymen.
