My dear Alice

I am sending you a sheaf of bags with my best wishes for your birthday. I meant to fill them with the proper articles but have been too absorbed and upset by school affairs.

Laura writes that they arrived safely and are stopping at the little Inn on the pike. I lecture at Bryn Mawr the evening of June 17" and [page 2] spend the night with Dean Thomas afterwards. I hope however by that time that they will be well settled at the sea shore. I wish very much that you might come on to Chicago and meet Marcet here -- I would meet you at Mendota if you could come. With many happy returns of the birthday

Always your loving sister
