Biographical Text

Martin A. Ryerson was an American businessman, lawyer, and a philanthropist. Martin moved from Michigan to Chicago and started a lumber business. He was also engaged in educational and charitable work. Ryerson served as an honorary president of the Chicago Art Institute, vice president of the Field Museum of Natural History and held various offices in connection with Carnegie Institute and Rockefeller Foundation.

Ryerson married Carrie Hutchinson in 1882. Ryerson died in 1932.
