July 26th 1923.

My dear Miss Addams,

Yesterday came to me the most alarming news that you have been obliged to go to a hospital in [Tokyo] in order to be operated of a tumor in one of the mammae. I hope it will not be a true news, but I should very much like to have a few lines from one of your many friends.

In such case you will very probably now be in your own home and I hope so much you will be in good health.

Wishing you strength and [energy] to fulfil still many years your [page 2] noble task in life and with great love.
