Dear Alice,

I am so sorry that I have an engagement for lunch next Thursday which it seems impossible to disturb as it involves a committee of people who left me to "name to day" -- I could certainly be downtown by 3:30 or 3:45.

Let me meet you at Plows –- on Washington St. -– opposite Fields, as nearly at 3:30 or 3:45 as I can make it. [page 2]

We may have time for afternoon tea for afternoon tea before we go over to Marcet's train. Plows is a small place but I will sit near the front door on Washington St.

I am just back from the north side where I have been convalescing from my illness which I am happy to say is over. Love to all the family whom I hope to see this week. Always your loving sister Jane Addams
