[Although] I have still to anticipate my first meeting with you I have so often [through] many friends and reading sat at your feet to learn of you much that is helpful that I return to address you this word of heartiest thanks for your extremely [page 2] effective article in Charities on the Chicago settlements.
I know of few things more timely and congratulate on the ability to utilize so well the experiences of these years in which you have been so forceful an inspiration to many.
I was most sorry to have had to leave Richmond [page 3] before you spoke there.
