My dear Stanley --
We telegraphed you the sad news yesterday. The cable simply said "John Addams Linn killed by shell fire Oct 8th."
We are writing to the Y.M.C.A. in New York hoping for something more but very likely that is all the news they have. Some day you must tell us more in detail all you heard about John when you were in France.
I am sure you will want to write to Winthrop so I am [enclosing] his address.
