My dear Miss Addams:

For some time I have been wishing so much that we might have a personal word of cheer from you, a letter that could be sent to each member. I would be so glad to pay our share in the expense of printing such a letter. I am very sure it would mean a great deal to all of us, for you have been our inspiration from the start.

I am enclosing copy of a letter sent out recently to our small membership -- about a hundred. I hope to be able to hold together a small group [page 2] which will serve as the nucleus for a larger one at the close of the War.

Please write us that letter.

Editors note: Mrs. Buttenheim hates to be personal but, lest Miss Addams should be misled by her name, wishes to state that her husband's relations to Germany are a Bavarian grandfather, (whom he never saw). His mother's people were among the very early settlers of Maryland. Mrs. B's people "came over" to Connecticut in 1620.
