Biographical Text

George Herbert Mead was a professor at the University of Michigan and the University of Chicago, where he worked from 1894 until his death. He focused on psychology and sociology. He was also a distinguished pragmatist. One of the founders of social psychology and the Chicago sociological tradition. Also worked with the City Club of Chicago, and as Treasurer of Hull-House. Published many books and articles on philosophy and psychology.

Mead married Helen Kingsbury Castle in 1891. Mead died in 1931.
