My dear Mr Ickes
Mrs Bowen is very ill at the hospitals at Bar Harbor. She will certainly be there for several weeks and is facing a possibly slow convalescence afterward. She told me yesterday to write you definitely that she withdrew her name as a candidate for county commissioner. [page 2]
I am sure that this is final. Her physicians are not unwilling that she should have any unusual exertion or excitement for months to come.
I need not tell you how sorry we all are!
