Biographical Text

Mary Simons Gibson was a teacher in the public school system and an active community leader. Gibson taught in Santa Clara County until shortly before her marriage and then moved to Los Angeles. Gibson fought for woman suffrage and other women's issues, as well as for peace and international relations. She wrote a history of the CA Federation of Women's Clubs. Gibson served on the CA Housing and Immigration Commission and chaired its immigration committee.

Gibson married Frank A. Gibson in 1881. They had four children, including Hugh S. Gibson who became a noted diplomat. Gibson died of a cerebral hemorrhage in 1930.
