My dear Alice
It was very nice to find a letter from you here last evening <[when]> We arrived from our Nile boat (having made the entire distance) the cataract to Cairo by water, [although] it was rather late. The journey was one of the most beautiful things in the world, the harvest [bringing carried] home on canals & boats, the [oxen?] and the [illegible] [lower right corner torn] [page 2] [upper left corner torn] [home?] in the wonderful [illegible] light.
We were also quite captivated by old Egypt. I am sending you our itinerary on the Nile and a list of books we have read.
We are seeing a good deal of the [missions?] everywhere and are much impressed with the fine educational establishments.
We did not follow the Cooks list in part of [time?], we stayed a week in [Aswan] & a week in Luxor. Please write us often as you can. Mary sends her love to you as does your loving sister
