JANE ADDAMS HYMN.

The Song of the Child Slaves.

Adapted by Harry Girard, Director of the Jane Addams Chorus.

Written at Playa del Rey, Los Angeles, Cal., By Mrs Olive Dorsey Gray ("Daisy Deane.")

1. See the child slaves, their ceaseless toil and strife; Wearing a-way their

in-no-cent young life: Toil-ing in mines, un-derground and dark as night:

With wea-ry lit-tle eyes that nev-er see day-light.

Oh, the chil-dren lit-tle chil-dren, with wea-ry forms bent low: Toil-

ing in the mine and fac-to-ry, Starved, they go.

2. See the child slaves, a tired toil-ing band: Prisoned in toil in

fair freedom’s land; Oh, hear their call, child voi-ces sob-bing low!

In their cry the Christ-child call-eth; heed its woe.

They are go-ing, yes, they’re going. See tired eye-lids fall: Thou-

sands glad-ly drop their shack-les, at death’s call.

3. Oh, will none hear, will no one heed their call? Oh will none free their

shackles ere they fall? Oh, see them toil, who’ve nev-er learned to play:

Work-ing in the mine and fac-to-ry night and day.

We are go-ing, al-so go-ing, King death we all must greet: What

shall we an-swer when we meet them, at God’s feet?
