Biographical Text

George Twose was an Englishman who arrived at Hull-House in 1897. He taught manual training in Chicago's public schools as well as woodworking at Hull-House's shops. Twose founded the Chicago Arts and Crafts Society and served as its first president. Twose was the dean of Hull-House's summer school and heavily involved in its Men's Club, theater life, and the artists' clubs at the Bowen County Club. He often wrote comical songs and monologs to entertain his friends at Hull-House. Twose died in 1924.
