My dear Miss Gulliver

The University of Wis. has offered me an Ll.D. to be given June 9th at Madison. It is a secret so far as public announcement is concerned. I care so little for academic pomp that I have hesitated to take it but think that the arguments for are stronger than against. [page 2]

I have a good many appointments for that week so that the 12th would probably find me somewhat spent.

Couldn't you let me off with the secondary address and give Miss [Burrell?] the main one? I am afraid that I would only be equal to a short one. I am very anxious to see the new chapel which [page 3] everyone declares to be most successful.

Always Faithfully yours

Jane Addams
